How To Teach Your Dog To Let You Know It Needs To Go Outside

Oh What A Cute Puppy Sleeping
You can easily teach your dog to let you know it needs to go outside by hanging a string of small bells from the door knob of the door you use to take your dog outside. Your dog is probably a lot smarter than you think it is. You can use this technique to teach a dog that is already potty trained to let you know it needs to go outside or you can use this technique to teach a dog you are working with potty training.

You can buy a string of bells in the crafts section of a store like Wal-mart and tie the string of bells to the door knob of the door you use to take the dog outside. Once you have the bells in place start to ring them every time you take the dog outside. And before long the dog will start to associate going outside with the bells ringing. And one day before you know it when the dog needs to go outside it will ring the bells. When it happens immediately praise the dog take it outside and give it a food treat. For a while every time the dog rings the bells take it outside and give it a treat. If you stay consistent the dog will ring the bells with its paw or nose every-time it needs to go outside and you'll think you have the smartest dog in the world.
